Our Massage Therapist, Kendra Smith!!!
Hi! I wanted to introduce myself to everyone. My name is Kendra Smith, LMT, CMMT and I’m excited to become part of the Team at Grimes Chiropractic. Dr. Grimes brought me on staff because I specialize in medical massage therapy. That means I’ll be working with Dr. Grimes integrating Medical Massage therapies for care when it is needed to enhance care and recovery. While Spa massages focus on de-stressing and relaxation, Medical massage has specific health care goals. I use a broad set of therapies for muscle health and recovery that include targeted plans of care and treatment goals that are coordinated with physicians. As part of Medical Massage, I will often use various tools for measuring range of motion in the joints to track improvements and progress towards treatment plan goals. I have been working with physicians integrating medical massage into client care for around 8 years with wonderful and rewarding results for those I’ve worked with and myself.
Don’t worry, if you are feeling well, we will also be offering more spa-oriented massage relaxation modalities and care at the office as well.
While we will be offering both these are some things that differ between medical and spa massage.
Call the office at (918) 453-9355 to set up an appointment or schedule HERE online. Below is some more information on Massage you will find helpful.
4 things that distinguish the difference between a medical massage and a spa massage:
It is outcome-based. In addition to stress relief and relaxation, a medical massage focuses on a medical need. It is often used to manage pain, reduce inflammation, improve circulation, relieve nerve compression, improve digestion, increase flexibility or treat other health care concerns.
It targets your needs through a variety of techniques. Spa massage and medical massage may feel similar, but their techniques differ. During a spa massage, the techniques likely focus on relaxation. A medical massage therapist will use a broader set of therapies for muscle health and recovery.
It includes specific follow-up recommendations. A medical massage therapist will provide a targeted plan for treatment, along with recommendations for a series of timed visits versus a periodic spa visit.
A medical massage session will include measuring range of motion in specific joints of concern. Medical massage will produce tangible results. This treatment can be done while the client is fully clothed versus a spa massage being unclothed and leaving the client covered in oils or creams. It is convenient for clients that have more limited mobility.

Based on your goals multiple treatments can be used together to meet your specific needs.
